The Heather

Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., in 1966, The Heather was the first BOYNE Golf course, and its challenge remains absolutely timeless. The course is widely considered to be one of the finest championship courses in the nation. The Heather was named the 2019 National Course of the Year and the 2018 Michigan Course of the Year.

#9 is one of the longest and most beautiful holes in the BOYNE Golf collection, especially in the fall. A tee shot down the center is best, though you will be tempted to shape one to the left. If you make an attempt to clear the pond on the left, you can sometimes get handcuffed by a wedge shot that will have to clear deep front bunkers to the elevated green.

Northern Michigan's First Resort Course

Bearing all the markings of its legendary designer, this Robert Trent Jones Sr., The Heather has earned its reputation as one of the finest championship courses in the entire United States.

The Heather has tested the finest names in the game since 1966, playing host to Michigan Amateurs, AJGA Championships, the Michigan State Pro-Am, and The Celebrity Tour. But with all that pedigree, it’s still making history. The Heather was named the 2018 Golf Course of the Year by the Michigan Golf Course Association (MGCA) and awarded the 2019 National Golf Course of the Year by the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA).
